Conventioneering panic!
This weekend is Fantasycon weekend and those of you who do conventions will know the sort of frantic activity that this will entail.
Today did not start well as I should have had a hair appointment but the stylist messaged to say her son was sick and could I come next week instead… err… not really, unless I have access to a TARDIS. Ho hum, not a promising start, but I had an emergency box of hair colour so all was not lost. My white locks are now lilac. Okay maybe not as good as a pro would do it, but it’ll suffice, and it’s a wash in so it will be gone in a few weeks’ time!
Days last week were spent sorting books for our Alchemy Press book table. Not just Alchemy stock but also my Bunch Courtney crime series - and of course the many boxes of preloved paperbacks and fanzines that people love to root through.
On Tuesday I made and iced shortbread biscuits as giveaways with every copy of ‘Of Sands And Tides’, which was something of a marathon. They are gluten free but do contain nuts (ground almonds). Hey, you win some you lose some…
Looking forward to the event as much because I catch up with so many folks that I only see once a year! Conventioneering is an odd world when you have good friends that you’ve known for 25 years but only spoken to in the flesh over that many weekends… These days social media does mean we keep in touch but its not the same as giving and receiving big hugs and hanging out in the bar.
In other news:
I recently received a copy of Something Peculiar, edited by Steve Shaw at Black Shuck books. This contains my story Apple Howling and makes a fine addition to the brag shelf!
With luck I shall also soon see the folk horror antho, Whispers In The Earth edited by Gabriela Houston, with my short story ‘Hounded’.
That’s about it for now. Duty calls with more book sorting to be done!
Talk to you all again very soon and stay safe!
Best of wishes and big hugs,
Jan
